“Black” tomatoes were developed in the Crimea region of Russia, which is why “Black Krim” is also known as “Black Crimea.” This heirloom variety produces large, beefsteak tomatoes that ripen to dusky-red and maroon with greenish-brown shoulders (the hotter the climate, the darker the skin). Flesh is reddish-green and smoky-sweet. With its wonderful flavour and meaty texture, this popular variety is delicious fresh in salads, or cooked in sauces. Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Plants are open-pollinated and indeterminate.
