Ah, the sweet perfume of a lilac shrub in spring! There may be approximately 15 different species of lilacs, but Double Blue packs a double punch when it comes to fragrance. Large lavender blooms shade to blue in the spring sunshine, and the layered petals of the intricate double florets look like delicate, tiny bouquets. Shrubs are easy to grow, long-lived, cold-tolerant and mildew-resistant. Prune back after blooming. Lilacs thrive in alkaline, well-drained soil. Excellent as a general landscape plant, for screening, borders or in mass planting. And of course, absolutely marvelous as cut flowers in the house!
