Also referred to as a dwarf Penstemon, the Dakota Burgundy is shorter and more compact than other dark-leaved Penstemons. Glossy, purple-black leaves provide a rich tapestry for a cornucopia of lavender-violet flowers in summer. These are fast-growing, long-blooming, hardy plants with a clumping growth habit. They require well-drained soil at all times, including winter. Due to the spectacular combination of foliage and blooms, this is a multi-purpose perennial; plant in borders or beds, in mass plantings or containers. Excellent for cutting as well. Hummingbirds adore the flowers!
