This heirloom variety produces large, beefsteak tomatoes that ripen to dusky-red and maroon with greenish-brown shoulders (the hotter the climate, the darker the skin). Flesh is reddish-green and smoky-sweet. With its wonderful flavour and meaty texture, this popular variety is delicious fresh in salads, or cooked in sauces. Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before the last frost. Plants are open-pollinated and indeterminate.
